Surfboard Repair Kit. This is a complete kit for making fiberglass repairs. It includes:
1 yard (36") of fiberglass cloth, 50" wide
12 ounces premium epoxy resin with hardener
5 spreaders
2 1" chip brushes
1/2 pint kit of both resin and thickener
2 pairs large latex gloves
5 stir sticks
AeroMarine Products' surfboard repair kit can fix nearly all fiberglass repair needs. It will also repair many metal or wood items. This epoxy resin kit is great for sealing the seams on an old aluminum boat. The epoxy will stick to most fiberglass or metal surfaces. However, our epoxy will not stick to Dacron, Teflon, polypropolene or polyethylene. AeroMarine's resin thickener makes the epoxy thick, much like Bondo, with the advantage of being much stronger (Bondo is made from polyester resin, which is not as strong as epoxy). You do not have to use the resin thickener unless you need to make a thick "paste-like" epoxy to fill vertical or overhead areas. This epoxy resin kit is a great addition to your tool box. Use it on your surfboard, SUP or whatever type of repair that needs an epoxy fiberglass patch.
The basic procedure for making a repair is:
Clean (maybe even sand) the surface to be repaired
Mix the epoxy and apply a thin coat
Cut a piece of fiberglass cloth and place it on the epoxy
Use a plastic spreader to push the cloth into the epoxy
If necessary, add more layers of fiberglass and epoxy
Allow to cure overnight
The resulting repair will be reasonably clear and may be painted with just about any paint. It's usually a good idea to sand the repair lightly prior to painting.
