YIKES! It’s getting cold…

We get a lot of calls as the weather cools regarding resin systems taking longer to cure.  Just about everything we sell is affected by cold weather.  Epoxies and polyurethanes in particular slow down substantially.  Silicones are less affected by cold temperatures.

The best way to deal with cold weather is to apply mild heat to the system you are using.  The “rule of thumb” for epoxies and polyurethanes is this:
For every ten degrees F that you raise or lower the temperature the resulting change in gel/set/cure times changes by half.  For instance, if a resin sets in 30 minutes at 75F then at 55F it will take about 60 minutes.  Conversely,  the same resin would set in 15 minutes at 95F.

In the winter sometimes you just need more patience waiting for resins to cure!
